【 Knowledge Sharing】Toilet Installation Process and Precautions

1. Toilet Installation Process

1.1 Preparation (Tool and Material Check)

Tools: Prepare an adjustable wrench, screwdriver, level, glass glue gun, tape measure, cleaning cloth, and utility knife.

Materials: Confirm the toilet body, water tank (separate type requires separate preparation), water inlet hose (pressure-resistant and explosion-proof type is recommended), flange gasket (toilet-specific, silicone material is preferred), mold-proof glass glue (for humid bathroom environments), and expansion screws (for fixing some toilet models).

Pre-inspection: Verify that the toilet’s rough-in distance (distance from the wall to the center of the drain pipe, common sizes: 300mm/400mm) matches the reserved rough-in distance in the bathroom. Check if toilet accessories (fill valve, float valve, water tank parts) are complete and undamaged.

1.2 Base Layer and Drain Pipe Treatment

Cleaning after old toilet removal (for replacement): First, turn off the water supply valve, drain water from the tank and toilet, remove the water inlet hose, unscrew the fixing screws with a wrench, pry up the toilet, and clean residual glass glue/cement on the floor. Focus on clearing debris in the drain pipe to ensure unobstructed flow.

Base layer treatment for new installation: Ensure the bathroom floor is flat (error ≤ 2mm), dry, and free of standing water. Wipe dust from the drain pipe opening and its surroundings with a cleaning cloth. If there are cracks or depressions on the floor, level it with cement mortar and let it dry.

1.3 Positioning and Sealing (Core Leak-Proof Step)

Flange gasket installation: Place the flange gasket over the bathroom drain pipe opening, ensuring the gasket center is fully aligned with the drain pipe (silicone gaskets can be lightly pressed to fix; for rubber gaskets, note the front and back—place the raised end upward).

Toilet positioning: Lift the toilet with both hands, align the toilet’s bottom drain opening with the flange gasket, lower it slowly, and press lightly to ensure tight contact between the gasket and the toilet’s drain opening. Use a level to check if the toilet is horizontal (calibrate both front-back and left-right directions). If tilted, (fine-tune) the toilet position to avoid water accumulation or abnormal noise during later use.

1.4 Fixing and Water Inlet System Installation

Toilet fixing: If there are reserved screw holes at the toilet base, drill holes after positioning with a tape measure, drive in expansion screws, and tighten them (apply moderate force to avoid cracking the toilet ceramic). If no screws are needed for fixing, apply a circle of mold-proof glass glue along the gap between the toilet base and the floor (glue line width: 5-8mm, continuous without breaks, just covering the gap).

Water inlet connection: Connect one end of the water inlet hose to the fill valve interface at the bottom of the toilet tank, and the other end to the reserved water supply valve on the bathroom wall. Tighten lightly with a wrench to seal (avoid over-tightening to prevent damaging the interface). Turn on the water supply valve, let water flow slowly, and check for leaks at the interface (if leaking, re-wrap with PTFE tape and tighten).

1.5 Water Tank Adjustment and Function Check (For Both One-Piece and Two-Piece Toilets)

Water tank installation (exclusive for two-piece toilets): Align the water tank with the fixing holes on the toilet body, connect with screws, and tighten to ensure no gaps between the water tank and the toilet.

Water level adjustment: After water supply, observe the water level in the tank. Adjust the height of the fill valve to make the water level reach the "water level line" marked inside the tank (excessively high water may cause overflow; excessively low water affects flushing power). Press the flush button to check if flushing is smooth and if the tank’s flush valve is sealed (if the tank leaks after flushing, adjust the position of the flush valve gasket).

1.6 Finishing and Curing

Glass glue curing: If fixed with glue, let it stand for more than 24 hours. Do not move or use the toilet during this period to avoid seal failure due to uncured glass glue.

Cleaning and acceptance: Use a utility knife to scrape off excess overflowing glass glue, and wipe off stains on the toilet surface with a cleaning cloth. Turn on the water supply valve again, flush 3-5 times, check if the drain pipe is unobstructed, and if all interfaces (water inlet hose, water tank, bottom gap) are leak-free. The toilet can be used normally once confirmed problem-free.

2.Toilet Installation Precautions

2.1 Before Installation: Avoid "Compatibility" Issues - Rough-in distance must be accurate: If the deviation between the reserved rough-in distance and the toilet’s rough-in distance is > 5mm, the toilet cannot align with the drain pipe, and forced installation may cause leaks. For small deviations, a "rough-in adapter" can be used, but note that the adapter must be compatible with the flange gasket to avoid adding leak points. - Check the water supply valve in advance: Replace old or rusted water supply valves (brass valves are recommended for better durability) to avoid disassembling the toilet for valve repair due to later leaks.

2.2During Installation: Focus on Leak Prevention and Damage Avoidance - Flange gaskets cannot be reused: Old flange gaskets lose their sealing performance after removal; even if undamaged, they must be replaced with new ones to prevent odor leakage or water leakage from the drain pipe. - Choose "mold-proof" glass glue: Bathrooms are humid for a long time, and ordinary glass glue is prone to mold and blackening. "Neutral mold-proof glass glue" is required, which balances sealing performance and mold resistance. - Avoid toilet stress and collision: Do not step on the toilet edge with one foot to adjust the position during installation; avoid colliding the toilet with wall corners during transportation to prevent ceramic cracking (ceramic damage is irreparable and requires full replacement).

2.3 After Installation: Curing and Long-Term Use - Do not use during the curing period: The glass glue curing time is at least 24 hours (extend to 48 hours in low-temperature and humid environments). Using the toilet before curing will cause displacement and damage the seal. - Regular leak checks: 1-3 months after use, check if the glass glue at the toilet base is cracked and if the water inlet hose interface is leaking. If the glass glue is moldy or cracked, remove the old glue and reapply new glue. - Avoid blockage by hard objects: Do not throw paper towels, hair, or hard objects into the toilet during daily use to prevent excessive water pressure from damaging the gasket after drain pipe blockage.
